" We learned to be patient observers like the owl. We learned cleverness from the crow, and courage from the jay, who will attack an owl ten times its size to drive it off its territory. But above all of them ranked the chickadee because of its indomitable spirit."

CHICKADEES
Family Paridae, subfamily Parinae

The picture at the top of the page is titled Autumn Perch. It is a beautiful pencil drawing of a Chickadee by Glenn Korgaard. For a larger image and to see other art by Glenn at Brian Hutchison's Home Page & Gallery click here.

I can't honestly say that I am a serious bird watcher but I'm working on it. I enjoy watching the numerous chickadees that visit our feeder each day. Someday I hope to get lucky enough to hand feed a chickadee! I couldn't find one single comprehensive source of information on the Internet about Chickadees so I've put together as much as I've been able to find so far into the Chickadee-Web. It includes facts, trends, graphs, maps, art, photos, sounds, poems, stories, quotes, collectibles, games, songs and more. In other words, if you enjoy chickadees, there should be something here for you! I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Some general chickadee information: Chickadees are black-bibbed,dark-capped acrobats that are tame and friendly. They nest in cavities in trees, and nest boxes and often feed upside down. They have the most complex social structures of any feeder bird and one of the largest vocabularies of calls, more than 15 different ones. You can hear some of these calls in the audio clips area and throughout the homepage. You will hear other sound clips as you browse through the links where you see this icon.audio

 Wanted

If you have an interesting chickadee story or experience illustrating the friendly character of the Chickadee, that you would like to share, please send it to us. If we find it unique or interesting enough, we will include it on the Chickadee Tails page for others to enjoy.

If you have any chickadee photos, please let us know. We'd be happy to include them in the exclusive My Private Chickadee Gallery

I'm also looking for Mexican Chickadee & Gray Headed (Siberian Tit) photos. If you have any or know of links, please let me know.

I'm sure I haven't found all the chickadee links on the Net. If you find any or have your own chickadee page that you would like included here, please send me the URL's.

I would really like to find some photos of chickadee nests with eggs and baby chickadees (without disturbing them).

If you can provide any of these items please get in contact with me. As you can see, I am very generous with credits to the contributor. THANKS!

Note: I am getting viciously attacked by spammers therefore I have started "very agressively" filtering my mail to combat spam terrorists! If your message to me contains any words typically found anywhere in spam messages & headers, it won't get past the filters. I also filter ISP's and countries that support spammers. If you use one of those ISP's your message won't get to me. You should complain to your ISP or find one that does not support spam. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause my birding friends that try to write to me.  There is however one word which if included in the subject line will fly through my filters.

I'd love to hear your comments on the Chickadee-Web and what you would like to see added. I'd also appreciate your help in reporting broken links or problems. I am truly an amateur birder so please don't write asking for advice on how to care for injured or orphaned birds. My best advice to you is to contact your local wildlife rehabilitation or nature center for professional care to give the birds the best chance for survival.
