PA FlowerIn memory of....

my 4th great grandparents, Salome Hepler and Michael Bolich Jr (her husband) , 3rd great grandmother, Elizabeth Paul Love, wife of William Love, and Jacob Paul, father of Elizabeth, and all others who are buried in the Barry United Evangelical Church Cemetery shown below, located just outside Lavelle, Pa.. Michael Bolich was a local preacher, probably of the Baptist faith. He held services in many of the log houses here and throughout the Hanyost, Deep Creek and Mahanatongo Valleys. The Barry Church, which was attended by the Lavelle folk, is built on ground which was given by Michael Bolich. The Barry United Evangelical Church is located approx. 1 mile south of Lavelle off Rt 901 at the intersection of Dutchtown Rd (4026) and Bolich Rd.

On April 26, 1998, the Barry Church (now closed) was once again opened to the public to celebrate its 125th Anniversary. Friends, family & past pastors reunited to share in this historic event. Click to hear the benediction hymn from this service, "God be with you". Note, this is a large file 1033K, and may be the last hymn sung in this beautiful country church.

On January 23, 2000, another historic event took place in the history of the Barry Church & Cemetery. The first meeting of the newly formed Barry Cemetery Association was held to approve the by-laws and elect a board. I am proud to serve on that Committee and Board of Directors.

The following pastors served the church.

Pastors of the Barry Church:
Rev. Nelson R. Repper 1963,1975
Rev. Robert H. Samuels (1958)
Rev. Lewis H. Bollinger (1979, 1982)
Rev. David T. Bailey (1977)

The hymn playing in the background, How Great Thou Art, was one of my dad's favorite hymns. He was born in Lavelle and I put this hymn here in rememberance of him, my grandparents, and all the others buried in this small cemetery in Schuylkill County. As the music plays from within the Barry Church, I hope you enjoy your visit to this quiet little church and cemetery.
