Souderton Area PAGE meetings are designed to support families parenting gifted students. Topics range from discussing the academic and social needs to discussing the strategy of gifted education in our district, the state or the nation.

- Souderton Area PAGE is hosting Dick Close, Director of Montgomery Co. Science Research Competition and 35 yr. veteran of Souderton Area School District teaching Middle School Science at Indian Valley and Gifted Education for Elementary students at EMC, West Broad and Franconia Elementary Schools. Mr. Close will speak about Science Fair and give you the most current information about this opportunity that your 6-12th grader might be missing.

Parents, please bring your students with you to this meeting. This meeting is open to all students and parents even if you are not a member of PAGE

2008-2009 MEETINGS

Meetings:	3rd Thursday of the month January 22nd, 2009 TBA March 26th, 2009 General Members Meeting -- Science Saturday planning May 21st, 2009
Time:	7:30-8:30 pm
Location:	Library of the Indian Valley Middle School (on Maple Ave in Harleysville) in the library .
Join:	We welcome anyone who wants to become more involved in this group either by identifying a speaker/topic to have featured, assisting with planning events, or simply attending any meetings. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A MEMBER TO ATTEND MEETINGS OR EVENTS. However, membership is encouraged in our group (only $5/year or FREE with state membership!) and in the state organization found at http://www.giftedpage.org. Your membership counts especially when the state organization is going to legislators to advocate for gifted rights. Membership Application

• November 30^th Gifted gift giving needs for the holidays?
  Some kids love "SET", others "24", others love books - the ideas go on an on - Bring your brainteaser catalogs, favorite shopping websites and ideas of stimulating games, toys & books to share. (We have some educational toy links but we would love to learn of more. E-mail the webmaster with your ideas.)
• January 25^th PAGE and the Challenge Teachers have long lists and we'd like to hear your family's favorites. Bring them to share! We have some education links already but we would love to learn of more. E-mail the webmaster with your ideas.
• The first SASD PAGE bowling party was great with about 100 attending. In addition to bowling there was homemade brownies and science games for all to enjoy.
• SASD PAGE Dontates Gifted Books to district. See the list.
• Souderton PAGE Hayride, November 7^th at Merrymead Farm was a success with about 20 people attending.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Souderton Area PAGE is to promote a positive environment to allow gifted students to reach their highest potential, to serve as a resource for families and educators of these students, thereby raising the level of educational excellence of the Souderton Area School District community.

"Pennsylvania is one of the few states which have chosen to place the educational needs of the gifted child under the protection of the Special Education Laws of the Commonwealth. This was done in recognition of the fact that highly gifted youngsters are not always appropriately served in a regular classroom setting. This legal framework helps to ensure that this special group of PA students has access to an appropriate education. However, the full implementation of the law for any individual child is always dependent upon the advocacy of the parent working in partnership with the school district and the child's teachers."

What can Souderton Area PAGE do for Parents?

• Provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and problems concerning gifted students
• Provides a united voice in support of programs for gifted students
• Represents the needs of gifted children at district committee meetings in support of policy and curriculum initiatives
• Alerts parents to key legislation issues
• Provides information regarding Special Education rights and regulations as well as due process to parents with gifted students
• Maintains a library of resource materials related to gifted students and education

• Monitors state-wide legislation and the implementation of Special Education Regulations affecting gifted education
